Trombone

The trombone is a brass instrument known for its sliding tube, which players move back and forth to change notes instead of using valves like other brass instruments. It has a large bell and a mouthpiece, where players buzz their lips to create sound.

 

The trombone can play both low and high notes and is used in orchestras, jazz bands, marching bands, and even movie music. Its bold and brassy sound makes it great for both smooth melodies and powerful, dramatic parts. The trombone is a fun and unique instrument with a sound that stands out!

It Uses a Slide Instead of Valves!
Unlike most brass instruments, the trombone doesn’t have buttons (valves). Instead, players move a long slide back and forth to change notes!

The Slide Can Be Over 3 Feet Long!
If you stretch the trombone slide all the way out, it can be more than 3 feet (1 meter) long! That’s as long as some kids are tall!

It Can Play Glissandos!
Because of its slide, the trombone can make a gliding sound between notes, called a glissando. It sounds super cool in jazz music!

The word "trombone" comes from the Italian word "tromba," which means trumpet, and "-one" means big—so it literally means "big trumpet!"
